Short Temper and Cursing when you're Angry

Image
ASSALAMU ALAYKUM WARAHMATULLAHI WABARAKATUH Praise be to ALlāh, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of ALlāh. You have to restrain your anger, because ALlāh says (interpretation of the meaning): “…who repress anger, and who pardon men; verily, ALlāh loves Al-Muhsinoon (the good‑doers).” [3:134] “And those who avoid the greater sins, and Al‑Fawahish (illegal sexual intercourse), and when they are angry, they forgive.” [42:37] This is because when a person does not restrain his anger, he insults, curses, swears and hits.  Anger may be a door to all kinds of evil. The Prophet (peace and blessings of ALlāh be upon him) often advised people not to get angry.  Al-Bukhari narrated in al-Saheeh from Abu Hurayrah (may ALlāh be pleased with him) that a man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of ALlāh be upon him), “Advise me.” He said: “Do not get angry.” The man repeated his request several times, and he said, “Do not get angry.” The Prophet (peace and blessings o...

Conditions of Friday Khutbah

Image
ASSALAMU ALAYKUM WARAHMATULLAHI WABARAKATUH Praise to be ALlāh Friday Khutbah The jurists of the four schools of Fiqh agree that the khutbah is a condition of the Friday prayer being valid, and it is part of the remembrance of ALlāh that He has enjoined in His words (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the Salah (prayer) on Friday (Jumu‘ah prayer), come to the remembrance of ALlāh [Jumu‘ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salah (prayer)] and leave off business (and every other thing).” [Al-Jumu’ah 62:9] The Prophet (blessings and peace of ALlāh be upon him) persisted in doing this; in fact it is narrated from some of the Companions that the Friday khutbah is a replacement for two rak’ahs of Zhuhr prayer.  All of that indicates that the khutbah is an essential condition for the Friday prayer being valid.  Ibn Qudamah (may ALlāh have mercy on him) said: To sum up, the khutbah is a condition of Jumu`ah, and it is not val...

Is exaggerating in beautifying the voice when leading people in prayer regarded as showing off

Image
ASSALAMU ALAYKUM WARAHMATULLAHI WABARAKATUH Praise be to ALlāh, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of ALlāh. Firstly: Beautifying the voice when reciting Quran is something mustahabb that is encouraged in many texts, such as the words of the Prophet (blessings and peace of ALlāh be upon him): “Adorn the Quran with your voices.” Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 1015; Abu Dawood, 1468; classed as saheeh by al-Albani. Al-Sindi said: i.e., make your voices beautiful when reciting, because beautiful words become even more beautiful when recited in a beautiful voice, and this is something well known. End quote from Haashiyat Sunan al-Nasaa’i, 2/179 Al-Munaawi said: By doing it in a beautiful voice and doing it well, this encourages people to listen to it and ponder it. End quote from Fayd al-Qadeer, 4/90. Being keen to beautify one’s voice when reciting Quran is something that is prescribed in Islam, and it is not regarded as blameworthy effort or showing off. This is indicated by th...

Snake in my Earthenware

Ibe ibe manédukpejo kid'efu otubé! Imach'iben, ef'otubé kpófó manyejo! After saving for four years, I earned a National Diploma from a reputable polytechnic. I was offered a job in a filling station after my NECO exam. I didn't take the WAEC exam because I couldn't afford both, and I believed NECO was more feasible compared to WAEC. I hardly dare to dream of travelling abroad. I don't envy those who are more fortunate. I hope to not be a product of circumstances. I worked at the station for four years, and was fortunate to be intelligent which made me likable to by bosses. In truth, I could only save a small portion of my gross income during those years. Hey, I wasn't reckless or negligent with my funds. I had to cover my basic needs, support family, and other expenses. However, I was determined to pursue higher education, very unlike my older siblings. I didn't have enough to support a student for four years, so I chose to seek for half bread inst...
