Medical Laboratory Technician

 The College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah, Kogi State, offers a Diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technician. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills to assist medical laboratory scientists in conducting laboratory tests and procedures.


In the healthcare sector, after the history taking and  physical examination of patients, the  Doctor requests for laboratory investigation. The results of this investigation provide concrete proofs for clinical judgements. They work tirelessly from the background, yet their contributions are of crucial significance in making life saving decisions.


In the typical diagnostic centres/lab departments in our present day societies, the medical laboratory technicians perform most of the jobs under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Scientist. This College  ensures that students are highly trained in both theoretically and practically, this enhance their skill performance and competence. They sometimes tell us  'we are the backbone of medicine', other times they would say 'we are the eyes of the modern clinical practices'. This is a Prestigious profession.


There's a lot of personal discipline in their training, tailored in line with their professional codes of conducts. No noise. 


They have responsibilities in the care given to live patients, they also have duties to even patients that have given  up the ghost....... This is because, their training include but Biopsy and Autopsy.......... How can you argue this profession isn't the eye of modern medicine when over seventy percent of medical decisions are made from/after evaluating the results of lab investigations? 


The  program covers various aspects, including:


1. Clinical Chemistry: Analyzing blood and body fluids.

2. Microbiology: Identifying microorganisms.

3. Hematology: Studying blood and blood disorders.

4. Histopathology: Preparing and examining tissue samples.



Graduates of Medical Laboratory Technician can work in various settings, including:
