Health Promotion And Education

 The College of Health Sciences And Technology Idah Kogi State has a department of Health Promotion And Education. They train students to become Health Promotion and Education Professionals.


Health Promotion and Education Professionals: Empowering Communities



Health promotion and education professionals are equipped  with the knowledge and skills to empower individuals and communities to make informed health decisions.



Students in health promotion and education programs learn about;  Health education principles and theories, Community health assessment and planning, Health communication and advocacy, Program development and evaluation, even Cultural competence and social determinants of health.


They contribute to;


1. Developing and implementing health education programs

2. Conducting community health assessments and needs analyses

3. Creating health promotion materials and campaigns

4. Collaborating with healthcare providers and community organizations

5. Evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations.


It is true many students don't willingly go to this department, but again we all cannot be Pharmacy Technicians, nor Community Health Practitioners. There's a need to diversify in our fields of studies, and that is why in healthcare service delivery, there exist, the concept of Health Team. Some of these team members provide awareness, others profer solutions to medical conditions by prescriptions and/or clinical procedures, we have those who diagnose...... In the end, we all have a role to play in the preventive, promotive, curative and to some degree, rehabilitative services to the individuals, families and country.


Health Promotion and Education Professionals can work in various settings, including:



1. Ministry of Health

2. Hospitals and healthcare facilities

3. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

4. Community health organizations

5. Schools and universities

6. Public health departments

7. Health advocacy groups


On the Global Stage, they function in;

1. World Health Organization (WHO)

2. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

3. International NGOs (e.g., UNICEF, Red Cross)

4. Community health organizations

5. Government health departments

6. Schools and universities

7. Healthcare facilities


These professionals can work in diverse settings, promoting health, wellness, and social change.



Academic advancements available for them include Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Master's Degree (focusing in health promotion, health education or community health)and upto PhD in public health, specializing in areas like Health Behavior, Health Communication or Health Policy.


When you see that Health Promotion and Education Student, in training, he/she is as important to the society as any other student.
