Epidemiology And Disease Control

 The College Of Health Sciences And Technology Idah, Kogi State offers both ND and HND Epidemiology and Disease Control. 


These programs equip students with knowledge and skills to prevent, detect, and control diseases in communities. In this department, students are;


1. Trained in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and control measures.

2. Equipped with skills in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

   3. Taught understanding of         epidemiological principles and methods.

4. Taught the ability to design and implement disease control programs.


The program expose topics such as; Epidemiology and biostatistics, Disease surveillance and outbreak investigation, Vaccinology and immunization, Environmental health and sanitation, Health education and promotion, Research methods and statistical analysis etc...



Graduates of ND and HND in Epidemiology and Disease Control can work in:


1. Disease control and prevention programs

2. Public health departments

3. Research institutions

4. Healthcare facilities

5. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)




The Epidemiology and Disease Control department plays a vital role in:


1. Preventing and controlling diseases

2. Promoting public health

3. Informing health policy decisions

4. Improving healthcare outcomes


While in training, students are sent to various departments in the ministries of health across the country on Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) for a period not less than six to eight weeks....... While on SIWES, they get to observe and experience the practical of what they had learnt from the classroom. On return, they write and defend reports on their experience (on the field) under the supervision of competent Lecturers.


There's also the Seminar presentation where students are given topics to make research and write their findings and suggest solutions to identified challenge.


Before the license exam, each of these students must author their first book (Project/Research work).......... All of this vigorous and meticulous training methodology is to ensure to not graduate half baked professionals into the health sector. 


The Epidemiology and disease control student can further his/her academic career after a postgraduate program (PGD/PGDE) to Masters in either Public Health or Epidemiology. 


By training students in epidemiology and disease control, the department contributes to building a healthier community.
