Primary Healthcare: A Key to Accessible and Affordable Health Services.
Primary Healthcare is an essential health care based on practicals, scientifically sound, and socially acceptable methods and technologies made universally accessible to individuals and families in a community through their full participation and at a cost that the family and country can afford to maintain at every stage of their development, in the spirit of self reliance and self determination.
In an ideal situation, PHC services ought to be essentially relevant to meet the health and health related needs of the people.
It should be sound scientifically, so you don't add to the woes of the people.
The methods should be acceptable to the people, enlighten don't bark at their refusal, understand their cultural/social life, don't look down on them.
Use local technologies that meet up with the universal standards, teach them to better their health. Thank God for the sachet ORS/Nutri C. Then Oral Rehydration Therapy was a local technologies. Respective appropriate proportions of levelled teaspoonful sugar and salt dissolved in appropriate volume of water gives you an equivalent of the ORS.
Community participation can never be taken out if we want sustainable results. They should be part of the health planning committee, they should actively take part in the implementation of designed strategies.
There's always room for inter-sectoral collaboration. A collaboration between the ministry of health and ministry of agriculture can go a long way impacting the lives of the people. They could provide good varieties of crops. The ministry in charge of water resources can improve quality and access to wholesome water.
PHC services should be affordable.
