The Incidence And Prevalence Of Drug/Substance Abuse in Our Society
Drug is a substance used to treat an illness, relieve a symptom, or modify a chemical process in the body for a specific purpose.
It is also a psychoactive substance, especially one which is illegal and addictive, ingested for recreational use, such as cocaine, marijuana, or even controlled pills.
A drug could be legal, and it's abuse will be illegal. Hence, drug abuse is the Misuse of, or overindulgence in, drugs; substance abuse. It usually leads to dependence on a drug or other chemical.
However, it is quite unfortunate that the incidence of substance abuse in our society is so endemic to the point that, almost everybody is into drug, or has been into one form of drug or the other in the past. This is more common among the teenagers and youths, especially between age 13 to 45.
Pick 10 young boys at random, you'll be shocked to know that 7to8 out of them are/were into drugs. This is bad, as it affects the individual and society in terms of sanity, moral standard, psychologically and even economically.
Substance Abuse stands condemned as it's killing a lot of the leaders of tomorrow, it promotes intellectual weakness.
Avoid substance abuse, do not practice self medication when you're not a health personnel (see a health personnel for prescription), try to adhere to and practice cultural, moral and religious values, go for counseling as you withdraw, and above all, stop illicit sale of controlled drugs.
Say no to Drug Abuse!
Say no to Substance Abuse!!
Together we can create a saner society.
